For an important car manufacturer of Formula 1 and luxury vehicles, we designed, tested and produced a suspension ball joint meeting all customer’s safety standards and sporty-driving requirements. The suspension ball joint had to face high performance loads because, due to the real sporty soul of the car, the results had to reach the highest levels. High working angles, high loads and low rotational torque are characteristics not easy to combine in one whole component. Even the working condition temperature required a careful analysis of both the materials and the tolerances for the internal assembly.
Thanks to our experience, supported by FEM analysis and in-house test bench, we identified the most suitable materials and heat treatments for each component, so that the requested loads could be respected.
Additionally, a correct design, optimal tolerances and the use of a high-performing lubricant grease, led us to produce an extremely resistant ball joint, with high working angle. Our customer, after wear and durability tests, was really satisfied with our product, and he currently employs it in all his sports cars. To date, more than 50.000 ball joints have been assembled on all our customer’s production lines.
